Capital to get UK-backed high-tech hospital

ISLAMABAD:

London’s Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has signed its first official partnership with a Pakistani hospital, Novacare Hospital, to share clinical best practices and foster healthcare staff development.

Under the agreement, Imperial College NHS will provide expert consultation in hospital planning, training, and clinical guidance. In return, affiliate fees generated by Novacare will be reinvested into Imperial’s NHS services in the UK.

The Novacare Hospital, currently under construction in Islamabad’s DHA Phase, is scheduled to open in 2026. It aims to deliver advanced medical care across 28 clinical specialties including cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology, and maternal health. The facility will feature smart building management systems, AI-optimised elevators, and cutting-edge infection control and fall prevention technologies.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott CMG OBE called the partnership a milestone in healthcare collaboration. “This agreement is bringing the UK’s world-leading healthcare expertise to Pakistan and, in turn, supports the UK’s NHS. By sharing best practices and helping to develop clinical staff, this partnership will directly help save lives,” she said.

The initiative is part of the UK’s broader strategy to export NHS clinical standards globally. The partnership will also allow Novacare clinicians to observe NHS multidisciplinary meetings, consult UK specialists for second opinions, and receive training based on NHS protocols.

Additionally, complex cases may be referred to Imperial’s private facilities in London, further supporting UK healthcare revenue.

Marriott, accompanied by UK Trade Envoy to Pakistan Mohammad Yasin MP during his three-day visit to the country, toured the Novacare construction site. The delegation met with key Novacare and Andalus Holdings executives including CEO Johannes Kedzierski, Director Faraz Minai, Partner Ghalib Hafiz, Director Mustafa Hassan, and Project Director Qaiser Rafiq.
