Esmaeil Baqaei on Wednesday reacted to a statement issued at the conclusion of an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council about Iran’s recent military operation against the American Al-Udeid airbase near Doha.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s move to target the American Al-Udeid military base was in line with exercising Iran’s legitimate right to defense in accordance with the Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and in response to the US’ aggressive action, taken on June 22, 2025, against Iran’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty. It should not be interpreted as an action against the friendly and brotherly government of Qatar by any means,” he explained.
Praising Arab and Islamic countries for expressing solidarity with Iran and condemning the Israeli and American aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity, Baqaei stressed that Iran will spare no effort to strengthen understanding and cooperation among the regional countries with the purpose of ensuring endogenous security and stability.
The spokesman also reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to maintain and promote good neighborliness and friendly relations with all Persian Gulf states, including Qatar.
He also commended the PGCC for its stances on the need for the cessation of Israeli aggression against Iran and the condemnation of the Zionist regime’s genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
