The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Tuesday urged citizens to remain cautious, as isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms were forecast for Islamabad and several areas across Punjab from June 25 to July 1.
The NDMA issued the statement a day after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast that the monsoon season this year was set to begin on Wednesday (today) bringing rain to various regions of the country.
The NDMA issued an impact-based weather report of the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), outlining weather conditions across various regions of Pakistan from Wednesday (today) until next Tuesday.
The report indicated the likelihood of thunderstorms, windstorms, and flash floods in different parts of the country, posing potential threats to public safety, infrastructure, and transportation systems. It said Isolated rainfall, thunderstorms, and windstorms were expected in Islamabad and most parts of Punjab.
These conditions might lead to uprooting of weak trees, temporary power outages, and damage to vulnerable structures, rooftops, vehicles, and electric lines, the NDMA said. “Citizens are advised to avoid standing near trees, signboards, or weak structures and to park vehicles in secure locations.”
The NEOC also highlighted the risk of flash flooding in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Kashmir, Potohar region, and Islamabad, because of scattered to widespread moderate-to-heavy rainfall, with chances of very heavy downpours at isolated places.
“The risk to property, infrastructure, and public safety in flood-prone and low-lying areas is significant. Residents in vulnerable locations are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and secure household belongings and livestock,” the NDMA stated.
In K-P, isolated thunderstorms and rainfall were expected in several districts, it said, adding that strong winds and thunderstorms might affect power supply, cause structural damage, and reduce visibility on roads.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were expected from 25th June to 1st July 2025, with occasional gaps. Additionally, isolated rainfall and thunderstorms were likely in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) from 26th to 29th June.
The NDMA strongly urged all citizens, travellers, and relevant departments to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant throughout this period. Emergency response units were advised to stay on alert for possible rescue and evacuation operations.
Public was encouraged to stay informed by regularly checking weather updates and downloading the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” mobile application.
